Brief History of Universitas ’Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta

‘Aisyiyah is a religious social movement organization that has grown and developed rapidly in the midst of Indonesian society. Its work is positive and dynamic, moving in various aspects of community life, including the field of education. Muhammadiyah as the parent organization of ‘Aisyiyah opens a wide door and freedom for ‘Aisyiyah to take part in the midst of society in order to achieve the ideals of educating the nation’s life. These ideals are based on noble intentions and on the encouragement and motivation of Allah contained in Surah Al Mujadalah verse 11, which states “Allah will raise the degrees of believers and those who are given knowledge several degrees”.

Starting from the encouragement and motivation mentioned above, ‘Aisyiyah in organizing education starting from kindergarten to higher education, is carried out diligently and responsibly. there is no time span without education. This proves that the world of education has merged into the soul of ‘Aisyiyah. Among the many educational activities of ‘Aisyiyah, one of them is the ‘Aisyiyah College of Health Sciences Yogyakarta, which is located at Jalan Munir No 267 Serangan Yogyakarta.

‘Aisyiyah Higher Education began with the establishment of the School of Midwives ‘Aisyiyah PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Hospital based on Minister of Health Decree No. 65 dated July 10, 1963. Later, the ‘Aisyiyah School of Nursing Level C was also opened at PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Hospital.

In 1978 the School of Nursing and the School of Midwifery were merged into the School of Nursing Midwives ‘Aisyiyah (SPB ‘A) PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Yogyakarta.

In 1980 SPB ‘A was transformed into the School of Health Nurses ‘Aisyiyah (SPK ‘A).

In 1982 the ‘Aisyiyah Midwife Education Program (PPB ‘A) was opened at the level of Diploma one midwifery.

In 1991 SPK ‘A was converted into the Yogyakarta ‘Aisyiyah Nursing Academy (AKPER ‘Aisyiyah) in accordance with the Decree of the Indonesian Minister of Health No. HK 00.06.1438 dated July 6, 1991.

In 1998 AKPER ‘Aisyiyah was converted into Akademi Kebidanan (AKBID) ‘Aisyiyah Yogyakarta in accordance with the Decree of the Indonesian Minister of Health No. HK 00.06.1.3.02187.

In 2003 AKBID ‘Aisyiyah Yogyakarta was upgraded to the status of HIGH SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCE ‘AISYIYAH YOGYAKARTA in accordance with the Decree of MENDIKNAS RI No. 181/D/O/2003 dated October 14, 2003 with Study Programs S1 Nursing Science, Ners Profession (Nursing) and D3 Midwifery. In 2009, a new study program was opened, namely DIV Midwifery Educator with Decree No. 397/D/T/2009 dated June 18, 2009. Based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 66/E/O/2012 STIKES ‘Aisyiyah Yogyakarta added one study program, namely the S1 Physiotherapy study program. Based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia no. 080/P/2014 STIKES ‘Aisyiyah Yogyakarta added one study program, namely the postgraduate Midwifery study program.

In 2016, precisely on March 10, 2016, STIKES ‘Aisyiyah Yogyakarta changed its form to Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta through the Decree of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education number 109/KPT/I/2016. Along with the change in form, there were ten new study programs that received permission to implement education, namely: Physiotherapy Profession, D4 Health Analyst, D3 Radiodiagnostic and Radiotherapy Techniques (TRR), S1 Public Administration, S1 Communication Science, S1 Psychology, S1 Biotechnology, S1 Architecture, S1 Accounting, and S1 Management.

Thus, a brief history of the establishment of UNISA.
