Student Executive Board (BEM) of Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKes) and BEM of Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta<\/a> held a beach cleanup activity at Baros Beach, Tirtohargo, Kretek, Bantul<\/a> (26\/5). The activity was in collaboration with several volunteers from the Bantul District Yogyakarta Search and Rescue Team which we then called Bersantai (Beach Cleanup) 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kurnia Regita, as the head of the committee revealed that this activity is a work program of the Asosma (Religion, Social, and Society) department of BEM FIKes UNISA Yogyakarta which then collaborates with BEM FST UNISA Yogyakarta by implementing social action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThank God, this activity received support from several elements and was welcomed with enthusiasm from the manager regarding our action in the form of cleaning marine debris on the coast and planting several plant seeds,\u201d said Regita.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anindya Gita Fakhira as the Governor of BEM FST UNISA Yogyakarta revealed the role of organizations that have an impact on society, \u201cWith the collaboration of BEM FST and BEM FIKes, it is not only building friendship between organizations, but also producing work programs that have an impact on society, such as this BERSANTAI event, with a beach cleanup event which was then followed by planting mangrove trees,\u201d said Anin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his speech, Ilham Ramadan as the Governor of BEM FIKes UNISA Yogyakarta said that this activity is a student action in the application of environmental care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe initiated this activity because of the waste problem that is still always an issue that has not found a concrete solution in Yogyakarta. It is hoped that our activity can motivate other students to always increase their concern for the environment, including the environment,\u201d said Ilham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This activity was also supported by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry who helped send some live plants such as Tabebuya and Red Pucuk. In the opening ceremony, the event was attended by Septianto Wikan, Ph.D as a representative of the academic community of UNISA Yogyakarta, as well as Suwanta, a representative of the Yogyakarta Naval Base (LANAL), and also the Head of Bantul Environmental Service Bambang Purwadi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Wikan appreciated the students who care about the environment, \u201cIndonesia has more oceans than land, so Indonesia has a very long coastline, if not us who will take care of it. Students from BEM FIKes and BEM FST are extraordinary, in between their busy schedules as students, they still care about environmental issues, especially coastal areas,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Suwanta said that the Bersantai 2024 activity certainly supports the task of the Navy which is to maintain the aquatic ecosystem and the preservation of marine biota.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cActivities like this must be emulated by fellow students and all elements of society in order to preserve the environment. We appreciate our fellow students from BEM FIKes and BEM FST UNISA for starting a movement in preserving the environment,\u201d said Suwanta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the opening of the activity, the students and volunteers from the Bantul District DIY SAR team were divided into several teams to carry out beach cleaning and mangrove planting. As a result, some plastic waste on the shoreline will be collected which will then be managed by the authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The planting of 50 mangrove seedlings is also expected to ward off incoming marine debris so that the beach will appear clean and beautiful. Of course this also helps preserve marine biota because the presence of mangrove trees will make brackish water fish habitat sustainable. Hopefully with the implementation of this activity, it can be a motivation for fellow students to always spread usefulness.
