Anticipating Emergency Conditions, UNISA Yogyakarta Laboratory Unit Moves Quickly to Equip Laboratory Technicians and Security Guards with Skills
Anticipating emergencies that can occur at any time, the Laboratory Unit of Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta took swift action. A total of 25 participants, consisting of laboratory assistants and security guards, were equipped with crucial skills through First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) training on Wednesday (10/15).
The training, held on the 4th floor of the Siti Bariyah building, demonstrates UNISA Yogyakarta’s commitment to ensuring safety on campus, particularly in high-risk laboratory areas.
UNISA Yogyakarta’s Vice Rector I, Dr. Sulistyaningsih, S.KM., MH.Kes., emphasized that this training is vital. According to her, laboratory assistants are the frontline personnel who interact daily with students and faculty members during practical activities.
“We really need awareness, and this is a special concern for occupational health and safety, especially in laboratories. We hope that this training will equip all workers with the necessary skills,” said Sulis.
In line with this, Dr. Dhesi Ari Astuti, S.SiT., M.Kes., Head of the UNISA Yogyakarta Laboratory UPT, explained that the main objective of this activity is to improve the understanding and skills of educational staff. This way, they will be ready and able to provide first aid to victims in emergency situations in various circumstances, both in the laboratory and on campus in general.
UNISA Yogyakarta brought in three expert speakers in their fields to deliver the material, namely Dr. Muhammad Khakim Abdillah, S.Ked., M.Biomed, Dr. Joko Murdiyanto, Sp. Sebuah. MPH., FISQua, Muhaji, S.Tr.Kep., M.Tr.Kep., and Puspitowarno, S.Kep, Ns. It is hoped that participants will now feel more confident and prepared to act as first responders in the event of an incident.
