The Biotechnology Study Program of the Faculty of Science and Technology at Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta officially collaborates with the Research Center for Food Technology and Processes of the Food and Agricultural Research Organization of the National Research and Innovation Agency (PRTPP-ORPP BRIN). This collaboration was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Research on the Exploration of Indigenous Indonesian Microorganisms for the Development of Biotechnology-Based Agriculture and Food Industries, Wednesday (28/08).

The signing ceremony took place in the Siti Moendjijah building at UNISA Yogyakarta. Tika Ainunnisa Fitria, S.T., M.T., Ph.D as Dean of FST UNISA Yogyakarta hopes that this collaboration can have a positive impact on both parties, especially in improving the quality of food research.

“We are optimistic that this collaboration will bring significant benefits to the development of science and technology in the field of biotechnology, especially in the context of developing the agricultural and food industry in Indonesia,” said Tika in her speech.

In line with Tika, Head of BRIN’s Food Technology and Process Research Center, Satriyo Krido Wahono, S.T., Ph.D said that this collaboration is a continuation of the previous collaboration that has been established with BPTPA.

“With the transition to BRIN, we are increasingly focused on developing research in the food sector. This collaboration with UNISA is expected to strengthen our research in the field of microorganisms native to Indonesia,” he said.

Furthermore, Arif Bimantara, S.Pi., M.Biotech as the Head of UNISA’s Biotechnology Study Program explained that this collaboration will focus on three main studies, namely the exploration of potential microalgae, the development of exopolysaccharides, and potential microorganisms from the rhizosphere of organic salak plantations. “These three topics are very relevant to the challenges faced by the agriculture and food industry today,” Arif said.

This collaboration will not only improve the quality and quantity of lecturers’ research publications, but also provide opportunities for students to engage in research activities in collaboration with BRIN researchers. Through the MBKM program and independent research, students are expected to gain real experience in the world of research.
