The Rector of UNISA Yogyakarta, Dr. Warsiti, S.Kp., M.Kep., Sp.Mat said in her speech, that this inauguration agenda should not only be interpreted as a ceremonial agenda, but an important moment of the journey to foster leadership.

“Because leadership is not just having a position, but also requires sacrifice. So I think it must be carried out with full responsibility and have a spirit to serve,” he said.

The elected student president, Lukmanul Hakim, hopes that this inauguration ceremony can give birth to new leadership that is able to move and inspire.

“Comrades, we need leaders who dare to take the burden, who think progressively and still uphold Islamic values. Let us guard this process together, because students must be given the space to grow,” he said.

The student president, Esa Jongko Budi Angkoso, expressed his gratitude to all elements that had helped make the event a success. He also advised all elected Ormawa administrators to continue to learn and process.

Various cases of sexual violence and sexual harassment have recently emerged from educated circles. The irony that occurs is also a concern for the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA).

Seeing the series of events, PPPA Minister Arifah Fauzi said the PPPA Ministry together with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) initiated a briefing on the dangers of violence against women, during new student admissions.

“Student ospek must have material about the dangers of violence against women,” said Arifah, met at the University of ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta, Saturday (19/4/2025).

In addition, Arifah said that each new student must also have a commitment or some kind of integrity pact. If they commit violence, there will be consequences. “All over Indonesia, the campus declaration is anti-violence, and friendly to women,” said Arifah.

Rector of UNISA Yogyakarta, Dr. Warsiti, said that UNISA Yogyakarta is committed to the protection and empowerment of women. UNISA Yogyakarta also concentrates on the health sector, trying to run various programs, one of which is community development, by strengthening the community with health insights.

“We encourage our friends in the UNISA Yogyakarta community, 80 percent of whom are women. Encouraging our lecturers to conduct research, empowering women. In fact, it is a special indicator, focusing on empowering women and children,” said Warsiti.

Warsiti said violence against women is also a special concern for UNISA Yogyakarta. She said this violence needs to be anticipated. She said UNISA Yogyakarta also has a Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (PPKS Task Force). “We are campaigning for child-friendly campuses, women, and disabilities, as one of our programs,” she said.

Kartini

In commemoration of Kartini Day on April 21, 2025, Vice Rector III of Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta, Prof. Dr. Mufdlilah, S.SiT., M.Sc., gave a message to UNISA students, especially women, to reflect back the fighting spirit of RA Kartini. This can be realized by thinking freely, speaking up and taking a role.

“Today, Kartini gives us hope that we will always be involved in the process of education, entrepreneurship, policy-making, and even in educating children, so that women have access to develop and advance,” said Mufdlilah, at UNISA Yogyakarta, Monday (21/4/2025).

Mufdlilah also hopes that UNISA Yogyakarta students, especially women, can play a role and become a driving force in society, by honing themselves to become a leader with courage and positive character.

“This is not easy, there are so many challenges. But this can be realized if we women are willing to join hands and strengthen solidarity between women. So that the women at UNISA dare to make decisions, dare to act and dare to speak out like RA. Kartini,” she added.

Mufdlilah also highlighted cases of gender inequality that occur against women. Sometimes it is caused by women themselves. Where they still think men are more dominant and have more authority than women, so that women’s roles in the public sector are limited.

“I think there are still things, where women are not brave enough to be at the forefront. There are women who say ‘Yes sir, yes you are a man’, in these forums, sometimes the leadership has not dared to take its position,” she said.

According to Mufdlilah, women who are afraid to take a role, afraid to speak out, afraid to fight back, make them easy prey for perpetrators of sexual harassment. This trait makes women seen as weak creatures who cannot defend themselves. She also invited all women at UNISA Yogyakarta to raise their value, dare to fight and dare to speak out so as not to be humiliated and harassed.

“I think it is time for women to have the courage to think critically, to think independently, to have an independent opinion, because in the model of sexual harassment, if you are silent, it has been embedded, the weakness of women is like shame, lack of courage, fear, worry. Well, that must be eliminated as an emancipation value from Mrs. Kartini,” she concluded.
