The old-fashioned, rigid, face-to-face approach to nutrition counseling seems set to become obsolete. Responding to the challenges of the times, the Nutrition Study Program at the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKes) of Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta made a bold move by hosting a Public Nutrition General Lecture at the Siti Moendjijah Building on Thursday (October 30, 2025).

Nutrition

The theme chosen was no small matter: “Digitalization of Nutrition Counseling and Education.” This is a strong signal that future nutritionists must be tech-savvy.

The Dean of FIKes UNISA Yogyakarta, Dr. Dewi Rokhanawati, S.SiT., MPH, was candid in her opening remarks about the event’s purpose. According to her, technology must be utilized optimally in nutrition services to make them more effective and reach more people.

“Through this studium generale, it is hoped that students will better understand the importance of their role as future nutritionists,” said Dewi.

She emphasized that students are encouraged to commit more deeply to their studies and “plan strategic steps for the future, both during their studies and in the professional world,” she added.

The seriousness of this event was evident in the participants’ enthusiasm. A total of 273 participants attended in a hybrid format (in-person and online). Interestingly, the event was attended not only by fifth-semester Nutrition students but also by students from the Anesthesiology program.

To thoroughly explore the topic of digitalization, UNISA Yogyakarta invited two internationally renowned speakers. They were Muhammad Iqbal Basagili, S.Gz., MPH, a lecturer at the Jember State Polytechnic, and Dr. Mohd Ramadan Ab. Hamid from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in Malaysia. Both speakers thoroughly discussed how apps, social media, and digital platforms can serve as new tools for nutritionists in providing counseling and education.

A total of 134 fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-grade students from Muhammadiyah Karangkajen Elementary School in Yogyakarta received an unusual lesson on Thursday (September 11). Instead of math or science, they were invited by a team from ‘Aisyiyah University (UNISA) Yogyakarta to thoroughly discuss reproductive health.

The school took this bold step to equip students with accurate understanding as they approach the critical period of puberty.

Reproductive Health

The principal of SD Muhammadiyah Karangkajen, Novia Nuryany, S.Pd., openly stated that this education is vital. According to her, understanding reproductive health is the foundation to ensure children do not make mistakes and are able to protect themselves and grow and develop healthily.

“We want the children to receive the right knowledge from a trusted source. That way, they can be better prepared and more confident as they enter adolescence,” said Novia during the opening of the event.

The session was led by Dr. Windi Sawitri, M.Biomed. She thoroughly covered topics that often spark curiosity: ranging from physical and psychological changes during puberty, how to maintain reproductive organ hygiene, to the ethics of healthy social interactions with peers.

The result? Beyond expectations. The head of the organizing team from UNISA Yogyakarta, Bdn. Fayakun Nur Rohmah, S.ST., MPH, admitted she was both surprised and delighted to see the students’ enthusiasm.

“The students were very active in responding and didn’t hesitate to ask questions. This is a strong indication that they truly need this kind of education, even as early as elementary school,” said Fayakun.

She hopes that this activity won’t just be a ceremonial event, but will truly serve as a foundation for students to navigate puberty more responsibly.

A warm, family-like atmosphere filled Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta. Its younger sister institution, Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) Bandung, conducted an intensive comparative study visit in the conference room of the Siti Moendjijah Building on Thursday (October 30, 2025).

Nutrition

The UNISA Bandung delegation came specifically to observe and learn more about the ins and outs of the Nutrition Study Program at the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKes) at UNISA Yogyakarta, which has already established a strong reputation.

Dr. Dewi Rokhanawati, S.SiT., M.PH, who welcomed the delegation, expressed her delight. She noted that this visit served as both a networking opportunity and a strategic discussion. One of the key topics discussed was the vital role of the Nutrition program in the success of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, which has garnered national attention.

“Hopefully, this visit will further strengthen the relationship between UNISA Yogyakarta and UNISA Bandung, and our synergy will grow even stronger,” Dewi said in her opening remarks.

There was an unusual sight in the lecture hall of the Siti Moendjijah Building at Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) in Yogyakarta on Tuesday (October 28, 2025). The paint manufacturer Avian Brands hosted a campus talk show to share industry insights with 75 students from the Architecture Program.

Avian Brands’ visit was part of a campus roadshow titled “Coloring The Future 2025.” More than just a typical talk show, the event also featured a Painting Experience session that allowed students to directly experience the application of the products.

Talk Show

This event specifically targeted Architecture students in their 3rd, 5th, and 7th semesters, who will soon be directly involved in the world of construction and material design.

Avian Brands brought in two of its experts as speakers. They were Regina Sukoco and Suyanto Hadi, who serve as Marketing Managers. Both thoroughly discussed how paint innovations can influence the aesthetics and functionality of a building.

Ar. Hendratmo Cesmamulya, S.Ars., M.Arch., IAI, a lecturer in the Architecture Program at the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at UNISA, urged the students in attendance not to waste this rare opportunity. He emphasized that knowledge from industry practitioners is vital.

“Make the most of this opportunity! Pay close attention to the speakers’ presentations, as their expertise is deeply connected to and relevant for the field of architecture you are pursuing,” Hendratmo stated in his opening remarks.

Sure enough, the students’ enthusiasm immediately soared. The Q&A session was highly interactive, reflecting the keen curiosity of these aspiring architects. They eagerly vied to ask questions ranging from future color trends and eco-friendly paint technologies to the challenges of material application in the field. This collaboration successfully bridged academic theory with industry realities.
