Combating Anemia in Teenage Girls, UNISA Yogyakarta Has a Surefire Strategy in Sleman
Aisyiyah University (UNISA) Yogyakarta is taking action to combat anemia, which still affects many teenage girls in Sleman. Rather than simply providing information, they have launched a targeted strategy by forming a special team of mothers and youth organizations.
Through the Student Organization Capacity Building Program (PPK ORMAWA), UNISA Yogyakarta held an educational event in Sendangagung Village, Minggir, on Saturday (11/10). In front of 106 participants, they emphasized the dangers of anemia and the importance of taking iron tablets (TTD).
The Head of the Student Affairs and Alumni Bureau (BKA) at UNISA, Bdn. Yekti Satriyandari, S.ST.M.Kes., stated that education must be accompanied by concrete actions.
“This education program aims to provide understanding so that teenagers can comprehend the dangers of anemia and improve compliance in taking iron tablets,” said Yekti.
The effective strategy referred to is the formation of two front lines. First, the Family Nutrition Awareness Movement (GKSG), consisting of mothers who act as information disseminators in their communities.
Second, the formation of youth cadres from youth organizations in each hamlet. Their task is very specific: to unite and ensure that their peers actually take TTD regularly, assisted by a special monitoring card.
The Minggir Community Health Center also welcomes this collaboration. With a monitoring team consisting of local residents, it is hoped that the anemia prevention program will run more effectively and sustainably.
