Prof. Nahla’s Visit to UNISA Yogyakarta and PP Aisyiyah: Discussing The Future of Women
Discussing women’s progress, Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta was honored to receive a visit from Prof. Dr. Nahla Shabry Al-Saeedi, from Al Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt. She was received in the courtroom of Siti Moendjijah building, UNISA Yogyakarta on Friday (09/02).
Prof. Nahla came to UNISA Yogyakarta in order to stay in touch with the Central Leadership of ‘Aisyiyah (PPA) and meet with the leadership of UNISA Yogyakarta. Her presence was warmly welcomed by the Chairperson of the Central Leadership of ‘Aisyiyah, Dr. apt. Salmah Orbayinah, M.Kes, and several other important figures including the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of UNISA Yogyakarta, Dr. Siti Noordjannah Djohantini, M.M., M.Si, and the Rector of UNISA Yogyakarta, Dr. Warsiti, S.Kp., M.Kep., Sp.Mat, and her staff.
During the meeting, Prof. Nahla shared her views on the strategic role of women in society and had a dialogue with all the participants. She expressed her hope to establish cooperation with the Central Leadership of ‘Aisyiyah and UNISA to advance women in various aspects of life.
“I want in this meeting we can make something that supports things related to the future of women. Women’s rights and obligations should not be reduced in any way because the Quran has told us so,” said Nahla.
Rector of UNISA Yogyakarta, Warsiti in her speech stated that UNISA Yogyakarta, although founded by an Islamic women’s organization, does not limit education to female students. UNISA, as part of ‘Aisyiyah, also encourages its students to play an active role in advancing the ummah, by carrying the mission of Women’s Progress as an Islamic principle.
“This will be the main inspiration for UNISA Yogyakarta to develop various breakthroughs, including in advancing women,” said Dr. Warsiti.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Central Leadership of ‘Aisyiyah, Salmah Orbayinah, said that Prof. Nahla’s thoughts were in line with the vision and mission of ‘Aisyiyah since its establishment. As an organization established to advance and ennoble women, ‘Aisyiyah continues to encourage women to get education and take part in the public sphere, an idea promoted by the founders of ‘Aisyiyah, K.H. Ahmad Dahlan and Nyai Walidah.
Prof. Nahla Shabry Al-Saeedi’s visit was not only an important momentum to exchange ideas and experiences, but also to strengthen our mutual commitment to continue advancing the role of women in society. Hopefully, the collaboration between Prof. Nahla, the Central Leadership of ‘Aisyiyah, and UNISA will be a real step in realizing greater progress for Indonesian women.
