Improving the Welfare of the Disabled, UNISA Psychology Students Collaborate with Mlati II Health Center
Psychology students of Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta once again showed their concern for the community, especially the welfare of the disabled. In the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program, two students of UNISA Yogyakarta’s Psychology Study Program, Aulia Maharani Elsafir and Sartika Masrudin, collaborated with Puskesmas Mlati II to organize the activity “Together with Teman Difabel Tlogoadi: Mental Health and Health Screening and Socialization of Dental Health” (20/06).
The activity, which took place at the Gor Kelurahan Tlogoadi, Sleman, was attended by 32 friends with disabilities and their companions. The main purpose of this activity was to detect early mental and physical health disorders in disabled friends, as well as provide education about the importance of maintaining health.
Collaboration that Brings Positive Impact
The collaboration between UNISA Yogyakarta and Puskesmas Mlati II in this activity shows the commitment of both institutions in providing optimal health services for the community. UNISA Yogyakarta Psychology students played an active role in the implementation of mental health screening using the Self Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ). Meanwhile, health workers from Puskesmas Mlati II conducted physical health checks and provided education on dental health.
Agus Salim, S.Psi, M.Psi, Psychologist, as the field supervisor, revealed that this activity was very beneficial for students. “Through the MBKM program, students not only sharpen the knowledge they have learned, but also gain direct experience in applying psychology to help the community, especially the welfare of the disabled,” he said.
The mental health screening carried out in this activity is very important to detect early the presence of mental disorders in disabled friends. With early detection, the right treatment can be given immediately so that the quality of life of disabled friends can improve.
