A team of lecturers from the Community Partnership Program (PKM) at ‘Aisyiyah University (UNISA) Yogyakarta discovered a surprising fact during a field trip to Dukun District, Magelang. While implementing a divorce prevention program, it was revealed that 80% of couples who married at a young age had not completed high school.

This fact was revealed when the team held a transect walk activity on Sunday (14/9). This is a method in which lecturers, together with 20 cadres and 18 young married couples, walk through the village to directly map social problems, ranging from economic, educational, to health issues.

During the survey, they found a number of crucial problems that trigger marital breakdown. In addition to low education levels, many residents are trapped in illegal online loans (pinjol) due to poor financial management. Cases of domestic violence (KDRT) and divorce due to infidelity are also still found.

“These findings form the basis for us to provide targeted solutions,” said Dr. Yuli Isnaeni, Chair of the UNISA Yogyakarta PKM Team.

Following up on these findings, the UNISA Yogyakarta PKM team immediately recommended that young married couples participate in the Kejar Paket C program. They also formed the Sakinah Empowered Family Community (KKSB) as a forum for guidance and strengthening for families who marry at a young age.

This program, funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, is expected to empower cadres to become the frontline in reducing divorce rates in Dukun Subdistrict.
