The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, visited Walidah Dahlan Mosque of Universitas Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. The visit was welcomed by the leadership and Board of Trustees (BPH) of UNISA Yogyakarta as well as the Chairperson of the Central Leadership of
Aisyiyah.
The Rector of UNISA Yogyakarta, Dr. Warsiti, S.Kp., M.Kep., Sp.Mat said that the Walidah Dahlan Mosque has a total area of 14,354 m2, located in the strategic area of the integrated campus of UNISA Yogyakarta, becoming a new icon for the university founded by the largest women’s organization in the world, Aisyiyah. This mosque is expected to radiate women’s knowledge through the da’wah movement in all lines that can be reached through the mosque. Its existence is very important for more than 7,200 UNISA students in the 2023-2024 academic year and more than 350 employees, including lecturers and education staff, and for the wider community.
In the near future, the mosque will be comprehensively utilized during Ramadan 1445 H this year with various activity programs through its five pillars of worship, education, da’wah, women’s empowerment and community empowerment.
During the visit, President Joko Widodo and Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono saw firsthand the strategic role of Walidah Dahlan Mosque as the center of Islamic activities on campus. This mosque not only functions as a place of worship, but also as a center of activities related to the practice of Islam, a vehicle for character education, and the implementation of Islamic life for all UNISA campus residents.
President Joko Widodo appreciated the Walidah Dahlah mosque which is very spacious and the building is sturdy and beautiful, besides that the President also praised UNISA Yogyakarta.
“The campus is led by women, and it turns out that women are more alert in facing any challenges,” said Joko Widodo.
President Joko Widodo also hopes that the strategic role of Walidah Dahlan Mosque in supporting character education and Islamic life in the university environment in order to support the golden Indonesia 2045.
This visit is also expected to provide a positive impetus for the development of educational institutions that are committed to religious and scientific values. The existence of this mosque also attracts the attention of the general public, because its location is very easy to reach.
It is hoped that this mosque can become a center of activity for the entire academic community and the general public, creating an inclusive environment that promotes Islamic values and diversity.
