The Health Assembly of ‘Aisyiyah Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) is taking significant steps in addressing the increasingly debilitating mental health problem. In the face of data from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey that shows DIY has the highest prevalence of mental disorders, ‘Aisyyah initiated an innovative program called Ranting Siaga Sehat Jiwa, Thursday (03/10).

The program was launched to coincide with World Mental Health Day, as a form of ‘Aisyyah’s commitment to increasing awareness and access to mental health services for the community. The Chairperson of the Health Assembly, Dr. dr Istianah, M.Sc, expressed her hope that this program can be a real solution in overcoming the increasingly complex problem of mental disorders.

Early Detection Training is Key

In an effort to strengthen this program, the ‘Aisyyah Health Assembly has organized training on early detection of mental disorders for Health Assembly administrators from all districts in Yogyakarta. The training was led by Dr. Ns. Mamnuah, Sp. Kep.J, Deputy Chairperson of the Health Assembly and lecturer in Mental Nursing at the University of `Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta, aimed to equip administrators with the knowledge and skills to identify early symptoms of mental illness.

“By recognizing the signs of mental disorders early on, we can provide appropriate interventions and prevent the condition from getting worse,” said Mamnuah.

The training also urged the importance of removing negative stigma towards health issues, so that people are more open to seeking help.

Collaboration is the key to success

Collaboration between the various levels of the ‘Aisyyah organization, from regions to wards, is key to the success of this program. By involving all levels of society, it is hoped that efforts to prevent and treat mental disorders can be more effective. “We hope that Ranting Siaga Sehat Jiwa can become a model for other regions in overcoming mental health problems,” Istianah added.
