Mental Health

Lecturer of Psychology Study Program of Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta, Ratna Yunita Setiyani Subardjo, S.Psi, M.Psi, Psychologist received an award from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia for her dedication and attention to mental health issues. Ratna takes a role to help maintain mental health not only in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia students but also families and the environment.

The woman who is currently pursuing her doctoral degree at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia is considered instrumental in helping to provide help through programs related to mental health, as well as approaches with counseling and psychotherapy. Ratna’s mental health programs have had a positive impact on many Indonesian students at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in particular, and students from various other countries in general.

Nita said that mental health is the main factor to make someone happy and empowered. Like gasoline, mental health is the driving force for the body to move forward, moving with enthusiasm, because it is empowered and happy to do so.

“Happy is not just about happiness that is always laughing, but being able to benefit others and be an inspiration to rise from adversity or problems, is a big output for those who are in trouble. Cases that occur in students, families, couples, and the general public are more about mild to severe mental health cases,” said Nita, Tuesday (11/3/2025).

Nita further said that mild mental health cases can actually be trained to be self-managed, if it is medium then it needs to be assisted with counseling and mild therapy depending on the case. If it is severe, it needs to be referred or assisted with therapy with regular assistance. Some serious cases related to depression, suicide, and severe mental disorders are of special concern.

“Not only students are involved in the counseling and therapy process, but also their families. Efforts to maintain mental health are carried out with various efforts such as preventive, curative, promotive and rehabilitative. Preventive with promotive in the form of mental health campaigns, in collaboration with PKPK UKM (PsiTra Psychology Clinic and Consultation Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia), Persatuan Pelajar Indonesia Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and PSITRA (Center for Psychology and Human Welfare Studies),” he explained.

Nita emphasized that mental health is an issue that needs attention today. Because there is no health without mental health. “If we are physically sick, if we have the will and motivation to recover, we will diligently take medicine, diligently come to a counselor or psychologist to make us better. If we are mentally ill, even though we are physically healthy, we feel like we don’t want to do anything, so feelings of anxiety, overthinking, anxiety that can lead to depression that develops into mental disorders if not immediately prevented,” said Nita.

Nita also hopes that many more parties will pay attention to mental health issues. This can be done by improving communication, empathy, creativity, networking. “Action soon/do it now starting from now. From simple things and from ourselves,” said Nita.

“From Unisa Yogyakarta, it is probably 80-90 percent (SPPG kitchen readiness),” said Bachelor of Indonesian Development Activists (SPPI) of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Avira Durrotul Rasyida, after verifying the location of the UNISA Yogyakarta SPPG kitchen, which is in Notoprajan, Ngampilan, Yogyakarta, Monday (10/3/2025).

Avira explained that for this location verification, checks were carried out starting from the location of the kitchen, area, and equipment. In addition, the kitchen is also ready to operate in the near future. The verification team also provided a number of notes to optimize the SPPG kitchen.

When mentioned, when is the possibility of the UNISA Yogyakarta SPPG kitchen, Avira made it possible in the near future. “Probably after Eid. Earlier we also saw the materials, manpower, kitchen equipment, kitchen safety,” said Avira.

Yuli said that a number of inputs from the BGN team that verified the location were immediately followed up. It is also hoped that after the Eid moment, it can operate immediately. “God willing, it will be ready after Eid. This week we will fix it,” said Yuli.

Preschool Teacher

Early childhood (0-6 years) is like a blank canvas, full of colorful spontaneity, explosive curiosity, and unlimited imagination. However, behind that agility and playfulness, there is also vulnerability: easy frustration, short attention span, and natural egocentrism. This is where Early Childhood Education (ECE) comes in, as the crater of the candradimuka that forges Indonesia’s golden generation.

PAUD is not just a place to play. More than that, PAUD is a holistic stimulation stage, stimulating children’s motor, emotional, and intellectual potential. The goal is clear: to prepare them to enter the next level of education with a solid foundation.

However, the burden of PAUD goes beyond that. The government has high hopes for PAUD in the effort to prevent stunting. Two crucial indicators are the benchmark: covering parents who attend parenting classes and covering children aged 2-6 years who are registered as PAUD students.

PAUD teachers are at the forefront, required to be able to provide stimulation, detection, and intervention of child growth and development, under the close supervision of puskesmas and health offices. This service is even one of the assessment indicators in PAUD accreditation.

Unfortunately, reality says otherwise. Not all PAUD teachers have adequate capacity, especially in monitoring children’s growth and development. The data is astonishing: 94% of teachers do not understand early detection of child development.

This condition aroused the concern of Sri Ratnaningsih and Rosmita Nuzuliana, a community service team from the Midwifery Undergraduate Program at the Faculty of Health (FIKes) of Universitas `Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta. They initiated a training program on the detection of children’s growth and development, targeting IGABA Turi PAUD teachers.

“The first step was in-depth problem identification, followed by the delivery of Early Detection of Growth and Development material based on the Ministry of Health 2022. The training method was made interactive: discussion, roleplay with case studies, and case presentations,” said Sri Ratnaningsih, Saturday (8/3/2025).

The training, which was attended by 34 IGABA PAUD teachers, produced positive results. Teachers’ knowledge and skills in detecting children’s growth and development increased significantly. As a provision, the service team provided growth and development detection books and educational game tools.

As a follow-up, teachers are committed to conducting growth and development detection at least once a year, according to the age of the students’ development. This effort is expected to detect potential growth problems early, so that intervention can be done as early as possible.

“Thus, PAUD is not only a place to play, but also a stronghold against stunting, ensuring that every Indonesian child grows optimally, becoming a quality golden generation,” added Rosmita Nuzuliana.
