Aisyiyah University (UNISA) Yogyakarta is ready to host the Global Conference Woman Rights in Islam which will be held from May 14 to 16, 2024. The event will take place at UNISA Yogyakarta’s Walidah Dahlan Mosque Convention Hall, serving as an important platform for international dialog on women’s rights in Islam.

Full support for this event comes from UNISA Yogyakarta’s Vice Rector I, Taufiqur Rahman, Ph.D. He expressed his commitment in supporting women’s rights around the world through this conference.

“The study of contemporary Islamic women’s rights is very relevant. Of course, because this conference is international, it is part of UNISA’s commitment to take part in global forums, part of the internationalization program as well,” he said.

In his press conference, Peter K. Munene, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Faith to Action Network (F2A), explained that F2A is an organization across religions, cultures, countries, and continents that was established in 2011. Various organizations from Indonesia, including Muhammadiyah, NU, and the Buddhist community, participated in forming this organization.

The global conference will be attended by 200 participants representing countries as diverse as Egypt, the United States, the United Kingdom, Bosnia-Herzegovina, the Netherlands, Palestine, and many more. This broad participation marks the importance of women’s rights issues in the Islamic context, as well as the desire to expand dialog and cooperation across borders.

UNISA Yogyakarta Hosts Discussion on SDGs and Muhammadiyah’s Concept of National Education

‘Aisyiyah University (UNISA) Yogyakarta was honored by the Muhammadiyah Central Board of Higher Education to host an important discussion: “Initiating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Muhammadiyah’s National Education Concept”. The event took place on Friday, May 10, in the courtroom of Siti Moendjijah Building.

Interestingly, Prof. Dr. Ignasius Dwi Atmana Sutapa, MSc, an expert who also serves as Executive Director of APCE-UNESCO, was entrusted as the main speaker in this discussion. With his various experiences, Ignasius is expected to provide deep insights into the challenges and opportunities in realizing the SDGs, especially in the context of national education which is firmly held by Muhammadiyah.

The Rector of UNISA Yogyakarta, Dr. Warsiti, S.Kp., M.Kep., Sp.Mat, in her speech expressed her pride that UNISA Yogyakarta, which began as a midwife school and is engaged in the health sector, has produced students representing 32 provinces in Indonesia.

“At UNISA, we have declared ourselves as a health-minded campus that is committed to becoming a university of choice and excellence, based on progressive Islamic values,” she said.

Warsiti also emphasized UNISA’s commitment to support the sustainable development agenda by strengthening all faculties and departments to understand, implement, and support the achievement of SDGs.

Ignasius’ presentation on SDGs was not only theoretical, but also led to concrete implementation, especially in the context of higher education.

“How we see the sustainable targets of higher education on a national scale in achieving the goals in terms of technology, is one aspect that needs to be considered,” Ignasius explained.

This discussion is expected not only to be a place to share knowledge, but also as a concrete step towards better change, both at the academic and practical levels, in realizing the vision of sustainable development and quality education. UNISA Yogyakarta, with its enthusiasm, is ready to contribute in realizing this goal.

Student Executive Board of Student Family (BEM KM) Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta Organized an Orphanage Social Service at Gotong Royong Orphanage, Jaranan Hamlet, Panggungharjo, Sewon, Bantul, Sunday (05/05/2024).

Annisa Ul Mardhiyah as the Chairperson of the Social Service Committee of BEM KM UNISA 2023/2024 revealed that around 25 children and the management of the Gotong Royong Orphanage enthusiastically participated in the event.

“This activity is filled with education on the use of gadgets in children, general education about Clean & Healthy Lifestyle (PHBS) to the younger siblings of the Orphanage and fun games, as well as the delivery of social assistance from BEM KM Unisa Yogyakarta and Unisa Yogyakarta Students,” said Annisa.

She also said that this activity aims to share happiness as a symbol of love and affection from BEM KM Unisa Yogyakarta to orphanage children.

Esa Jongko Budi Angkoso as Student President (Presma) UNISA Yogyakarta for the period 2023/2024 revealed that this activity was a momentum for the field of charity for the management of BEM KM Unisa Yogyakarta “On this occasion BEM KM Unisa Yogyakarta not only runs the work program, but also the opportunity to do charity and worship with sincere intentions Lillahita’ala,” said Esa.

Esa invites fellow BEM KM Unisa Yogyakarta colleagues and Unisa Yogyakarta students to jointly implement the teachings of Al Ma’un theology in concrete movements, so that they can continue to spread benefits to others.

The Student Executive Board of the Student Family (BEM KM) of the University of ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta held the Work Plan and Budget (RKAB) of Ormawa and UKM UNISA Yogyakarta for the 2023/2024 Period. In Siti Moendjijah Building, 4th floor, room 14 (SM.4.14), integrated campus of Universitas ‘Aisyiyah Yogyakarta and through the Zoom Meeting link, Saturday (04/05/2024).

Corlita Zerine as Chairperson of the UNISA Ormawa 2023/2024 RKAB Committee revealed in her speech, a total of 21 University Level Student Organizations (Ormawa) and the Yogyakarta ‘Aisyiyah University Student Activity Unit were involved in the activity.

“This activity aims as a space for program exposure from each Ormawa and Student Activity Unit (UKM) in the next period with the Bureau of Student Affairs and Alumni,” said Zerine.

On the other hand, Esa Jongko Budi Angkoso as UNISA Student President (Presma) for the 2023/2024 period revealed that this activity was a momentum for integration and implementation of ideas for the next period “I hope that this RKAB moment will become a space for elaborating ideas of thought which will then be implemented in work programs that spread benefits to students,” said Esa.

Yogyakarta, May 7,2024 Universitas ‘Aisyiyah Yogyakarta (UNISA Yogyakarta) held a peace rally to support Palestine as a form of support and solidarity with the Palestinian people who continue to suffer from aggression and disproportionate military attacks from Israel. This action involved the entire academic community, ranging from lecturers, employees, staff, to students. At 10:00 am, Siti Moendjijah Building, UNISA Yogyakarta.

“The death toll has reached almost 35,000 people and the wounded reached more than 77,867 people, most of whom are women and children. Even today, most of the Gaza Strip has been reduced to rubble. The supply of food and humanitarian aid to Palestine is strictly monitored and restricted by the Israeli army, so that hunger becomes a very heartbreaking sight.” Said prof. Dr. Mufdhillah

In the event that took place in the UNISA Yogyakarta campus, Prof. Dr. Mufdhillah, S.SiT., M.Sc, read out a statement containing eight important points:

  1. Strongly Condemn Israeli Aggression: UNISA Yogyakarta strongly condemns the aggression and disproportionate military attacks, mass arrests of Palestinian civilians, destruction of public facilities, especially health facilities, and blockade of humanitarian aid.
  2. Condemns Support from Other Countries: UNISA also condemns the attitude of countries such as the United States, France, Britain, Germany, and others who continue to provide support and assistance to Israel in its aggression against Palestine.
  3. Calls for UN Intervention: calls on the United Nations to force and facilitate negotiations and a ceasefire between Israel and Palestine.
  4. Support for the International Criminal Court (ICC): The university supports the efforts of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to prosecute Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli figures involved in the genocide against Palestinians.
  5. Criticism of Arab Organizations and Countries: The action also condemns the weak stance of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Rabithah Alam Islami, and Arab countries that tend to allow Israel to attack and kill Palestinians.
  6. Not Opening Diplomatic Relations with Israel: UNISA Yogyakarta asked the Indonesian government not to open diplomatic relations with the aggressor and perpetrator of genocide, Israel.
  7. Support for Palestinian Independence: Based on human rights and the constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, UNISA Yogyakarta requests the strengthening of diplomacy with other countries to realize an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.
  8. Call to Indonesian Society: This action invites all levels of Indonesian society to continue to pay serious attention to the conflict between Israel and Palestine and provide moral, material and spiritual support for the struggle of the Palestinian people.

This action to support Palestine was carried out simultaneously by all Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah universities throughout Indonesia, this is a concrete manifestation of awareness and concern for the fate of the Palestinian people who continue to suffer.
