Appreciating Teachers’ Service, UNISA Yogyakarta Presents Teacher’s Day Scholarship

Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta gives a special appreciation for teachers in Indonesia, during Teacher’s Day. The appreciation is in the form of free tuition fees for one semester for the sons/daughters of teachers, in UNISA Yogyakarta’s New Student Admission (PMB) 2025.

“Free tuition fee for one semester for the sons/daughters of teachers is a form of our respect for the teachers who have dedicated their lives to education in Indonesia,” said Head of Public Relations and Protocol of UNISA Yogyakarta, Sinta Maharani.

It is known that this special scholarship program can be obtained by registering in all study programs at UNISA Yogyakarta, except for the Master of Midwifery, Professional Education, Bachelor of Medicine, and RPL classes. This scholarship program is valid from 23-25 November 2024.

This scholarship program can be accessed through the link https://bit.ly/BeasiswaHariGuru2024. Applicants only need to fill in a number of data and attach a teacher’s certificate or teacher’s duty letter belonging to the parents.

“We invite all teachers to utilize this scholarship for their children. We hope this scholarship can help open up opportunities to continue their education to higher education,” said Sinta.
UNISA Yogyakarta is currently accredited as Excellent by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). The accreditation achieved by UNISA Yogyakarta is proof of the quality of higher education produced.

There are currently four faculties in UNISA Yogyakarta. Starting from the Faculty of Health Sciences, then the Faculty of Economics, Social Sciences, & Humanities, then the Faculty of Science & Technology, and the Faculty of Medicine.

Sekaron Ecoprint Learning Shibori: Connecting Japanese Culture and Local Creativity

Sekaron Ecoprint, a creative business known for its unique ecoprint products, is now going a step further by learning the traditional Japanese fabric dyeing technique, Shibori. In an effort to develop their products and enrich the local cultural treasures, Sekaron Ecoprint participated in Shibori training organized by the Institute for Research and Community 

Service (LPPM) of Universitas `Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta, Wednesday (13/11).
Shibori, a technique of dyeing fabric by tying, folding or pinching the fabric before dipping it in dye, has been an integral part of Japanese cultural heritage since the 8th century. With its distinctive geometric patterns, Shibori not only offers aesthetic beauty, but also contains deep philosophical values.

The two-day workshop was led by Shibori expert Astinah Sulisworo from Nak Nik. The participants were introduced to various Shibori techniques, from basic techniques to more complex ones. In addition, they also learned about choosing the right dye material, especially for cotton fabrics that are widely used in ecoprint production.

“Natural dyes are very suitable for weaving that has natural fibers, but for cotton fabrics, natural dyes can fade,” said Astinah.

Astinah also emphasized the importance of combining the Shibori technique with local motifs to produce unique and high-value works.

Bridging Eastern and Western Cultures
Through this training, Sekaron Ecoprint not only expanded its knowledge of fabric dyeing techniques, but also opened up opportunities to collaborate with artisans from various regions. By combining the Shibori technique with Indonesian batik or ikat weaving motifs, it is hoped to create handicraft products that are competitive in the international market.

“This training is very useful for them. Sekaron Ecoprint can learn new techniques that can be applied to their products,” said Era Agustina Yamini, S.E., M.Sc, one of the service team from UNISA Yogyakarta.

Era hopes that in the future they can produce more innovative products with high artistic value.

This training program is part of LPPM UNISA Yogyakarta’s efforts in fostering Home Industries and Micro Enterprises (IRT-UM) in Yogyakarta. By providing training and access to a wider market, it is expected to improve the welfare of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

FST UNISA Yogyakarta Holds a Real Action: River Cleanup, TDS Sensor Installation, and Fish Seed Stocking

The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta showed its concern for the environment by holding a Sport and Art Everyweek (SAE) activity entitled “FST Down to Earth”. This activity involved students and educators of UNISA Yogyakarta in a real action to clean up trash in the river around the campus, Saturday (11/23).
Not only cleaning the river, this activity was also combined with technological innovation. The team from the Information Technology Study Program successfully developed a TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) sensor that measures water quality. This sophisticated sensor is then installed in the river to monitor water quality periodically.

“This TDS sensor is the work of our Information Technology laboratory. Hopefully, with this sensor we can monitor water quality in real time and take further action if there are significant changes,” said Dean of FST UNISA Yogyakarta, Tika Ainnunisa Fitria, S.T., M.T., Ph.D.

In addition, to complete the environmental conservation efforts, the activity continued with the sowing of tilapia fish seeds. This step aims to balance the river ecosystem and maintain the sustainability of fish resources.

“This FST Down to Earth activity is an excellent collaboration between the three study programs in FST, namely Architecture, Biotechnology, and Information Technology. Through this activity, we want to show that science is not only theoretically useful, but can also provide real solutions to environmental problems,” added Tika.

The SAE FST Down to Earth activity is expected to be a real example for other campuses in implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, especially in the field of community service. In addition, this activity is also a living laboratory for students to apply the knowledge they have learned directly.

To Absorb Student Aspirations, UNISA Yogyakarta Holds ‘SUARA’ Public Hearing

Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta held a public hearing with UNISA Yogyakarta students entitled “SUARA” or Deliver Your Suggestions, Aspirations, and Recommendations, at Siti Moendjijah Building, UNISA Yogyakarta Campus, Saturday (23/11/2024). This activity is a democratic space for students to convey their aspirations.

 “Today we (UNISA Yogyakarta campus) hear more from students. Listening is important for a better learning process,” said Vice Rector IV for Cooperation and International Affairs of UNISA Yogyakarta, M. Ali Imron, M.Fis.

 Imron said that the campus will try to follow up as soon as possible what is the suggestion and input from students. However, Imron admitted that there are some things that may take longer.
 

“Sometimes the answer needs reflection. So we will routinely hold (public hearings), so that there is follow-up and evaluation. Every three months we will conduct this activity,” said Imron.

Imron invites students at every public hearing to submit input or ideas, for the improvement of the learning process at UNISA Yogyakarta. “We will facilitate you to become excellent students,” said Imron.

It is known that the internal public hearing initiated by the Public Relations and Protocol Bureau of UNISA Yogyakarta with the title SUARA was the first time it was held. Previously, public hearing activities had also been carried out with external parties some time ago with the media crew.

In this public hearing , students expect a number of improvements to the facilities on the UNISA Yogyakarta campus. “Hopefully the facilities can be checked again, so that we who study are more comfortable,” said student representative from the Faculty of Economics, Social Sciences and Humanities (FEISHum) UNISA Yogyakarta, Nurmala Devi Lestari.

A number of other inputs submitted by students were related to improving comfort in the environment around UNISA Yogyakarta, then there were also inputs related to the implementation of teaching and learning activities. The publichearing held this time was interactive. Some complaints submitted by students have also received solutions. In addition to student representatives, the hearing was also attended by University Leaders, Faculties, Heads of Study Programs, Heads of Work Units within UNISA Yogyakarta.

Vice Rector III for Student Affairs, Alumni, Islamic Religion, Kemuhammadiyahan, UNISA Yogyakarta, Prof. He also suggested that in the future there should be recommendations. “Encourage good recommendations, for prevention (things that are not good), and for improvement (good things). Improvement for all of us,” he said.

UNISA Yogyakarta Hosts PTMA Leadership Training, Ready to Become a Center for Excellent Human Resources Development

‘Aisyiyah University (UNISA) Yogyakarta, as a center of superior Islamic higher education, was trusted to host the Leadership Training activity organized by the Education and Research Council of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership. The event took place in the courtroom of Siti Moendjijah building on Friday (22/11) and was attended by representatives of Muhammadiyah ‘Aisyiyah Universities (PTMA) from all over Indonesia.

In order to improve the quality of leadership within PTMA, the participants were divided into five groups to visit several excellent PTMAs, including UNISA Yogyakarta, UAD, UMY, UMS, and UNIMMA. At each university, participants had the opportunity to have direct dialog with campus leaders and leaders of related units, as well as directly observe the work system of certain units.

Vice Rector IV of UNISA Yogyakarta, M. Ali Imron, M.Fis, in his speech expressed his welcome to all participants. He also revealed that UNISA is committed to continuously improving the quality of education and becoming a center for the development of superior human resources.

“We are very pleased to welcome the Leadership Training participants to UNISA. Through this activity, we hope to learn from each other and exchange ideas to create good university governance. In addition, we also ask for the blessing of everyone’s prayers because UNISA will soon open S2 Nursing, S3 Midwifery, Professional Architect, and Nutrition Professional study programs,” said Imron.

Ghofar Ismail, S.Ag., M.Ag. from the Education and Research Council of PP Muhammadiyah said that this activity was a good opportunity for PTMA to learn from each other and contribute to the development of Islamic higher education.

“We are very grateful for the opportunity given by Dikti to hold this activity. One of our main focuses is the internalization program of Islamic and Muhammadiyah values. UNISA with its slogan ‘Excellent, Professional, and Qur’anic’ is very suitable to host this activity,” said Ghofar.

The Leadership Training activity was attended by representatives from eight PTMAs spread throughout Indonesia. Their presence showed high enthusiasm to improve the quality of leadership in each university.
