Supporting Palestine, UNISA Yogyakarta Holds Peaceful Rally
Yogyakarta, May 7,2024 – Universitas ‘Aisyiyah Yogyakarta (UNISA Yogyakarta) held a peace rally to support Palestine as a form of support and solidarity with the Palestinian people who continue to suffer from aggression and disproportionate military attacks from Israel. This action involved the entire academic community, ranging from lecturers, employees, staff, to students. At 10:00 am, Siti Moendjijah Building, UNISA Yogyakarta.
“The death toll has reached almost 35,000 people and the wounded reached more than 77,867 people, most of whom are women and children. Even today, most of the Gaza Strip has been reduced to rubble. The supply of food and humanitarian aid to Palestine is strictly monitored and restricted by the Israeli army, so that hunger becomes a very heartbreaking sight.” Said prof. Dr. Mufdhillah
In the event that took place in the UNISA Yogyakarta campus, Prof. Dr. Mufdhillah, S.SiT., M.Sc, read out a statement containing eight important points:
- Strongly Condemn Israeli Aggression: UNISA Yogyakarta strongly condemns the aggression and disproportionate military attacks, mass arrests of Palestinian civilians, destruction of public facilities, especially health facilities, and blockade of humanitarian aid.
- Condemns Support from Other Countries: UNISA also condemns the attitude of countries such as the United States, France, Britain, Germany, and others who continue to provide support and assistance to Israel in its aggression against Palestine.
- Calls for UN Intervention: calls on the United Nations to force and facilitate negotiations and a ceasefire between Israel and Palestine.
- Support for the International Criminal Court (ICC): The university supports the efforts of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to prosecute Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli figures involved in the genocide against Palestinians.
- Criticism of Arab Organizations and Countries: The action also condemns the weak stance of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Rabithah Alam Islami, and Arab countries that tend to allow Israel to attack and kill Palestinians.
- Not Opening Diplomatic Relations with Israel: UNISA Yogyakarta asked the Indonesian government not to open diplomatic relations with the aggressor and perpetrator of genocide, Israel.
- Support for Palestinian Independence: Based on human rights and the constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, UNISA Yogyakarta requests the strengthening of diplomacy with other countries to realize an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.
- Call to Indonesian Society: This action invites all levels of Indonesian society to continue to pay serious attention to the conflict between Israel and Palestine and provide moral, material and spiritual support for the struggle of the Palestinian people.
This action to support Palestine was carried out simultaneously by all Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah universities throughout Indonesia, this is a concrete manifestation of awareness and concern for the fate of the Palestinian people who continue to suffer.
