Plastic Waste Transformed Into Artwork and Planting Media by UNISA Students
Students of Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta’s Community Service Program (KKN) group 83 managed to turn plastic waste into beautiful artworks and useful planting media in Nogosari 1 Hamlet, Wukirsari Village, Imogiri, Bantul. Together with PKK women and local youth, they have created a new innovation in plastic waste management which has been a serious problem.
Plastic Waste
In an activity that took place in August 2024, UNISA KKN students invited residents to recycle used plastic bottles into unique plant pots. The bottles were hollowed out, painted colorful, then filled with planting media and vegetable seeds. In addition, the tops of the bottles were transformed into beautiful decorative flowers, while used plastic cups were arranged into interesting arrangements.
“We want to show that plastic waste can be transformed into something valuable and useful,” said Diana, one of the students.
“By turning plastic bottles into plant pots, we are not only reducing waste, but also encouraging a more environmentally friendly lifestyle.” She added.
This activity not only benefits the environment, but also strengthens the relationship between residents. The PKK ladies and local youth were very enthusiastic in participating in this activity. They were happy to be able to contribute to keeping the environment clean and creating beautiful works of art.
