Oath of Midwife Profession at UNISA Yogyakarta: 122 Midwives Ready to Work

Universitas Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta held a professional oath ceremony for 122 alumni of the midwifery profession program at the Convention Hall of Walidah Dahlan Mosque, UNISA Yogyakarta. The solemn event was attended by Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Moh Ali Imron, M.Fis, Rector of UNISA Yogyakarta, Warsiti, S.Kp., M.Kep., Sp.Mat, and Chairperson of the Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI) DIY, Sutarti, S.SiT., Bdn., MPH.

In his speech, Moh Ali Imron expressed his pride for the alumni who have successfully completed their education and are ready to go to the community. “In front of us today, the alumni of the UNISA midwifery profession are 122 midwives. Since 2021, UNISA Midwifery Program has graduated a total of 362 professional midwives. Of these 122 midwives, the UKOMNAS pass rate reached 96.1%, with the highest graduate achieving a GPA of 4.0,” he said.

Moh Ali Imron also added that UNISA midwife alumni have spread and developed their careers in various health service facilities (fasyankes), independent practices, and other sectors. “With such a profile, UNISA midwife alumni will have a professional spirit and will be the right people to carry out the mandate as stated in verse 58 of Surah An-Nisa. From the knowledge and skills of these midwives, the improvement of maternal and child health in particular and public health will continue to increase,” she said.

Rector of UNISA Yogyakarta, Warsiti, S.Kp., M.Kep., Sp.Mat in her speech said that the future challenges of midwifery will be more complex. “The future challenges of midwifery include adaptation to technology, the complexity of health problems, and the need for qualified competence. Aisyiyah midwives must be able to become actors of change. Therefore, Aisyiyah midwives must have a character in line with the character of progressive women, namely women who have an advanced state of mind and living conditions in all aspects without experiencing obstacles and discrimination both structurally and culturally,” she explained.

Warsiti also emphasized that advanced women are women who are knowledgeable with the foundation of faith, as stated in the treatise of progressive women.

The Chairperson of the Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI) DIY, Sutarti, S.SiT., Bdn., MPH also gave her speech. She emphasized that Aisyiyah midwives must be strong soldiers of God. “Aisyiyah midwives must be able to open independent practices, carry out quality services in accordance with predetermined standards and guidelines,” she said.

The professional oath ceremony ended with the reading of the oath by the inaugurated midwives, witnessed by UNISA officials, representatives of professional organizations, families, and other invited guests. The newly appointed midwives are expected to bring positive changes and contribute significantly to improving maternal and child health in Indonesia.
