Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta and Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar conducted a research collaboration with the theme GEDSI (Gender Disability and Social Inclusion) Knowledge and Attitude Intervention Model in Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Universities. This research tries to support the fulfillment of disability and women’s rights, as well as intervene related to the problem of violence.
This research departs from the problem that there are still many cases of violence against women with disabilities that have not been revealed and advocated properly. There are also many child marriages, female circumcision, discrimination against vulnerable women, and many other cases that are examples of GEDSI-based cases.
One of the research members, Dr. Islamiyatur Rokhmah, S.Ag., M.S.I (Unisa Yogyakarta) said that Indonesia ratified the UN conference in achieving SDGs with an agreement that no one is left behind, so in all aspects of life women, disabilities, children and vulnerable groups can get all rights, both the rights to life, religion, economy, politics, health, education, social and culture.
“No one is left behind to get this access, this is the GEDSI concept that is carried out to alleviate the problems that exist in society. So Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah Universities have a role here in helping the government program, by conducting education, research and community service,” said Islamiyatur, Thursday (5/12/2024).
This research was chaired by Dr. Warsiti, S.Kp, Sp.Mat (Unisa Yogyakarta) with member 1, Dr. Islamiyatur Rokhmah, S.Ag, M.S.I (Unisa Yogyakarta) and member 2, Dr. Dahniar, M.Kes. (UNISMUH Makassar). This follow-up research is considered very important, to be able to provide one solution to efforts to increase knowledge and attitudes towards the GEDSI issue, which in previous studies was known that knowledge and attitudes towards the GEDSI issue were still limited.
“This further research is expected to produce a module that can be applied by Muhammadiyah Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions to socialize the GEDSI issue, which can be the basis for policy makers/stakeholders in the campus environment in making preventive efforts against various GEDSI issues, such as cases of discrimination, marginalization, double burden and violence based on gender, disability and social exclusion,” said Islamiyatur.
PTMA has the virtue of practicing the chess darma of Higher Education, namely teaching, research, community service and being active in the association, should have insight into the GEDSI issue. It is not limited to insight, but it is hoped that the GEDSI issue can be contained in policies in higher education, namely in the Main Performance Index (IKU) and Additional Performance Index (IKT), because Higher Education is one of the stakeholder elements that helps alleviate various community problems related to the GEDSI issue.
