The phenomenon of Joget Sadbor on TikTok by hundreds of people in Margasari Village, Bojongkembar Village, Cikembar Sub-district, Sukabumi District, West Java, has recently become a public concern.
Many feel that this trend shows another side of social media, where viral content often blurs the line between creativity and self-exploitation, Sadbor and the live mud bath trend on TikTok show how social media can create phenomena that on the one hand are considered creative, but on the other hand are considered a form of humiliating oneself and the nation. This is because this activity looks like a begging activity which can be interpreted as online begging. This phenomenon raises big questions about the ethics and social impact of the trend, especially when it involves large sums allegedly related to online gambling.
The Joget Sadbor phenomenon originating from Margasari village in Sukabumi, West Java, has caught the attention of the public and social media in recent months. It was popularized by Gunawan, the owner of the TikTok account @sadbor86tiktok, and went viral thanks to its simple yet energetic movements. However, behind its success, allegations have surfaced that Joget Sadbor serves as a means of promoting online gambling . Joget Sadbor, originally known as “Joget Patuk Ayam”, combines upbeat dance moves with a spirit of togetherness among the dancers. The presence of Joget Sadbor not only provides entertainment but also creates economic opportunities for local residents. This encourages many people to take part in the joget action, hoping to earn extra income.
From a psychological point of view, we can see that this phenomenon actually shows how creativity can be possessed by anyone at any age under any conditions. According to Freud, creativity is closely related to the term four aspects:person, driver, process, and product. Creativity can also be viewed from personal and environmental conditions thatpush individuals into creative behavior. Freud’s theory is known as the 4P theory of creativity. Creativity is part of the personality. Creativity according to Freud is an unconscious attempt to avoid awareness of unpleasant or unacceptable ideas. Although most defense mechanisms inhibit creative action, sublimation mechanisms are the main cause of creativity.
The goal is for the potential possessed by one’s personality self to be accustomed to actualizing itself in terms of creativity. In the case of Gunwan Sadbor, it can be seen that there is a self-defense mechanism owned by him in the form of repression and sublimation that emerges into creativity. The form of creativity is Joget Sadbor, which is considered unique and eventually followed by tens or even hundreds of people.
Social media has made the movement of this trend faster, more massive and more popular. Often viral things that are initially positive become negative due to the euphoria of the existing conditions. This is what triggers the emergence of online gambling embeds or inserts that make this content not only viral but can also generate coffers. Because this activity is carried out in groups, the results obtained are also enjoyed together.
Creativity can be developed within the family, school and community. Sigmund Freud viewed humans as deterministic beings, where human behavior is determined by irrational forces, unconsciousness motivation, biological drives and instincts and psychosexual events during the first six years of life. He developed his opinion as a human force in the form of instinct. Gunawan Sadbor uses his instincts to develop his creativity to influence others and continue to do so repeatedly to attract attention and eventually generate coffers, to the point of inviting dollar bills that are not canned.
This instinctual power is used by Gunawan Sadbor as a defense of his life as a human being. Freud saw this as a tendency of Gunawan Sadbor that was seen as a mental “something” that led to behavior directed at other people, ideas, objects, and certain groups to direct creativity. In Freud’s psychoanalytic theory, the ego must face conflicts between the Id (which contains sexual and aggressive instincts that always need channeling) and the superego (which contains prohibitions and rules that inhibit these instincts), the ego must still consider the reality in the outside world before displaying certain behaviors.
Departing from the description of the defense mechanism asserted by Freud, there is a tendency to switch to behavior in creative actions because the initial satisfaction is not fulfilled. We can see in this case that human creativity is determined by unfulfilled sexuality so that ideas for creativity emerge. Supported by a weak super ego condition, where this super ego is the ability of the self to control behavior that is not in accordance with the norms, such as staying away from bad actions, actions that are out of place, and others.
Implications of Sigmund Freud’s Personality Theory in Sadbor Gunawan’s Joget
Looking at the key concepts of Sigmund Freud’s personality theory, there are several theories that can be applied in the psychological analysis of Gunawan Sadbor’s case and the alleged online gambling. First, the key concept that “humans are creatures with needs and desires”. This concept can be developed in the explanation that the process of transferring knowledge by him to the surrounding community, by looking at the nature of humans, has basic needs and desires in the form of economic conditions and self-positioning as someone viral and famous. This is done to strengthen each person’s personal ego.
Second, the theoretical concept of anxiety that a person has can be used as a vehicle for achieving goals by oneself, namely helping individuals to understand themselves choose, decide and plan their lives by developing their abilities compared to their goals or goals, whether goals can be achieved in accordance with existing reality, if not, then it can bring up anxiety in a person as compensation for the demands of existing goals. Cognitive ability or thinking ability is one aspect that affects the emergence of a person’s creativity. Guilford, a psychologist and former chairman of the APA (American Psychological Association) stated that a person’s ability to solve problems is divided into two types, namely:
1. With critical thinking (convergent) which tends to want the single most correct answer.
2. With creative thinking (divergent) which is an ability to provide answers with various alternatives.
The Bojongkembar community, which was affected by pure profit before the insertion of online gambling, should realize that this can invite bad potential in the future. Like what is happening now, that this is a case of online gambling inserted in Gunawan Sadbor’s viral dancing content.
Society should not rely on this phenomenon continuously, because psychologically humans cannot be permanently happy just because of one thing. Within a certain period of time, people will no longer be interested in this. The thing to worry about from this phenomenon is when they are no longer viral. The economic situation owned by the Bojongkembar community who do this Joget Sadbor is those who have a lower middle class. They are very vulnerable to an inducement that they find attractive. This is considered a job, but it cannot be said to be a job that can guarantee their lives.
There have been many viral or trending phenomena that have fallen and they no longer get income from the benefits of viral and trending phenomena. If people want to consider Joget Sadbor as a job, then they must be able to innovate so that social media audiences will continue to be interested in the innovations they create without riding on various other roles that threaten the role of actors as part of pure creativity.
It was suspected by the media that some of the accounts that provided the largest sums during the live broadcasts were allegedly affiliated with online gambling. It is important to realize that criminals are often good at adapting and finding new ways to carry out illegal activities. The potential danger of this phenomenon is that people should be wary of high-risk ways to earn money quickly, as many people are more interested in instant ways to become famous and rich, such as live streaming TikTok, Instagram, etc. Sadbor’s viral Joget action not only earned him a lot of money, but also brought the name of the region to fame both at home and abroad. Sadly, Sadbor’s big name was instantly ruined after falling into a case of online gambling promotion, due to the large sums of money given by the banned website.
Back in the review based on psychological analysis with Freud’s view, the existence of id, ego, and super ego that are harmonious or balanced, is the key that the role of creativity can be done optimally to produce 4P aspects, namely personal aspects (person), drivers, processes, and products. Creativity can also be viewed from personal and environmental conditions that encourage (press). Social support from the local community should not be a trigger for threats to the future of individuals and community groups.
