Stunting 1

To fight stunting, Aisyiyah University (UNISA) Yogyakarta lecturers, namely Suryani, S. Kep., Ns. M.Med.Ed, Agil Dhiemitra Aulia Dewi, S.Gz., MPH and Andhita Dyorita Kh., S.Psi, M.Psi, Psychologist have carried out Community Service Grant Community Partnership Program (PKM) Directorate of Research, Technology, and Community Service (DRTPM) Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Year 2024. The team, which is also the management of the Aisyiyah Health Assembly, carries the KISS Innovation for Empowering Stunting Self-Help Mother Groups as Handling Stunting Cases in the Aisyiyah Moyudan Sleman Yogyakarta Mother Group.

Fighting Stunting

The program began with training for the Stunting Self-Help Mother Group which was held Friday-Saturday, September 13-14, 2024 at KB Ananda Barepan, Sumber Rahayu, Moyudan Sleman. The training was attended by 16 mothers of toddlers and 6 Makes Moyudan administrators with material on the use of stunting mats for child growth detection, nutrition management exercises with a variety of local food menus, the use of diary meal plans for nutrition planning, and happy parenting with stress management. The training was completed with the provision of child growth detection media assistance packages and nutrition assistance for toddlers.

This program is a follow-up to the Nutrition assistance program by the Health Assembly of Aisyiyah D.I Yogyakarta Regional Leadership with Lazizmu DIY which has been provided since 2023. Managing the problem of stunting apart from nutritional assistance also requires the ability of mothers not only related to the type of menu but also the correct way of processing and healthy presentation to optimize children’s nutritional absorption, train parenting and stress management so that the role and resilience of mothers is more optimal and supports a positive atmosphere for child development and happy parents.

The program, which involves students from all three study programs, targets mothers as the main environmental factor that plays a role in child development. So that in this program, in addition to increasing the ability of mothers to manage stunting problems, the empowerment of the KISS Stunting Self-Help Mother Group is expected to optimize the role of mothers who have succeeded in dealing with stunting problems as a support group / support system for other mothers who are currently still experiencing stunting problems. This is the flagship of the KISS Swabantu Stunting program innovation.

This breakthrough was welcomed enthusiastically by the Moyudan Health Assembly Management and the fostered mother group. They claimed to have gained a lot of new experience and knowledge. In addition, with the KISS program, the fostered mothers are increasingly aware that the problem of stunting is not only a matter of diet, but also very much related to parenting, positive communication patterns and also healthy emotional management. The program evaluation showed positive results with an increase in the mother’s ability and readiness as a support group for the Stunting program.

Collaboration between Nursing, Nutrition and Psychology with synergy with Aisyiyah is an approach to be able to maximize the National Health Program by empowering groups of mothers to be more aware of the importance of nutrition, healthy parenting and stress management in fighting stunting.Tags:aisyiyah, banggamenjadiunisa, beunisa, stunting, unisayogya

Cegah Stunting

Stunting, a growth problem in children under five, is still a serious concern in Indonesia. To overcome this problem, supplementary feeding (PMT) is one of the effective solutions. In Padukuhan Kramen, KKN students from Universitas ‘Aisyiyah Yogyakarta (UNISA) participated in stunting prevention efforts by actively participating in Posyandu Dahlia activities on Sunday, September 08, 2024.

The Importance of PMT in Preventing Stunting

Supplementary feeding plays a crucial role in preventing stunting. Nutritious foods rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals such as vitamin A, iron, and zinc can :
Fill Nutritional Deficiencies: Nut rients that are not met from daily food can be fulfilled through PMT.
Enhance Immunity: A strong immune system will protect children from various diseases.
Support Physical Growth: Height, weight, and other physical development will be optimized with adequate nutritional intake.
Improves Cognitive Ability : Adequate nutrition is essential for children’s brain development.

KKN UNISA Yogyakarta: Synergy to Prevent Stunting

The nine UNISA Yogyakarta KKN students, namely Febri Ferdinan, Annisa Restu Latifa, and others, have made a real contribution to the activities of Posyandu Dahlia. They not only assisted in the implementation of activities, but also provided education to mothers about the importance of PMT and how to choose nutritious food for children.

Education and Socialization are Key to Stunting Prevention

In addition to providing PMT, education and socialization to parents and the community is very important. By understanding the importance of nutrition, parents will be more selective in choosing food for their children. The government, health organizations, and educational institutions also have an important role in providing accurate and easy-to-understand information about stunting prevention.

Synergy for the Future of Indonesian Children

Stunting prevention efforts require cooperation from various parties. The collaboration between UNISA Yogyakarta KKN students, Posyandu Dahlia, and the community of Padukuhan Kramen is a clear example that with synergy, we can create a healthy and smart young generation.

Kraton

Stunting, a chronic nutritional problem that stunts children’s growth, is a serious concern. To address this issue, Universitas `Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta in collaboration with the Association of ABA Kindergarten Teachers (IGABA) Kemantren Kraton held a training for ABA kindergarten teachers in Kemantren Kraton. This training aims to optimize the role of School Health Efforts (UKS) in preventing stunting, especially in the first 1,000 days of life (HPK).

The activity, funded by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture, involves cross-disciplinary activities, including midwifery, nursing, and nutrition. The community service team from UNISA Yogyakarta, led by Bdn. Evi Wahyuntari, S.ST., M.Keb., provided material on stunting prevention, measuring height and weight, and using the WHO Antro application to analyze children’s nutritional status.

“Through this training, we hope that ABA kindergarten teachers can play an active role in stunting prevention efforts in the school environment. With the knowledge and skills they have, they can conduct early detection of stunting children and provide appropriate interventions,” said Evi.

In the training, the teachers were not only given theoretical material, but also hands-on practice in measuring children’s height and weight and analyzing the measurement results using the WHO Antro application. In addition, the teachers were also trained to conduct nutrition counseling to parents of children with nutritional problems.

“We really appreciate the initiative of UNISA Yogyakarta for providing this training. This training is very useful for us as kindergarten teachers in our efforts to prevent stunting,” said one of the participants.

Next Steps

After the training, the UNISA Yogyakarta community service team will provide assistance to ABA kindergarten teachers in applying the knowledge gained. This assistance will be carried out through visits to ABA kindergarten schools to monitor the implementation of the stunting prevention program and provide technical assistance if needed.

Emilia Dani Safitri, as the team leader of PPK Ormawa BEM FIKes UNISA Yogyakarta revealed that this activity is an ongoing activity by involving the village to optimize efforts to prevent stunting.

“We initiated this activity based on our background from a health-based university. Previously, we researched data related to stunting cases in Yogyakarta, and found that the highest prevalence was in Minggir sub-district, especially Sendangagung village. So, we are trying to help in efforts to prevent and reduce the prevalence of stunting in Sendangagung Village.” Emilia said.

Yekti revealed that this activity hopes to get positive benefits for the village and can train students in community service activities.

“We hope that this activity can help increase knowledge about stunting in detail and support the Minggir Puskesmas program in stunting prevention efforts. Hopefully this activity will not only end when this series of PPK ormawa activities are completed, but will continue independently when this series of activities has ended. Don’t worry about what needs to be brought during the activity, because the facilities have been prepared from students. So, let’s work together in achieving several indicators of success in this activity.” Yekti said.

The Head of Sendangagung Village, Raden Heru Prasetya, S.E., M.IP also expressed his gratitude for the dedication of UNISA Yogyakarta who has been willing to carry out activities in Sendangagung village.

“Being a student in the field of health science is certainly very extraordinary, because this is a humanitarian call that has become commonplace for health students to always care for and empower people in the field of health welfare. This activity will last for about 2 months with some stimulation training on stunting prevention efforts with adequate nutritious food which later this activity will produce a Micro Business output that we will manage ourselves.” Heru said.

This PPK ORMAWA activity will last for 2 months, the next meeting will discuss the material “Processing of Food Sources of Vegetable Protein and Animal Protein” with the hope that Health cadres can implement processed food products with high protein but still remain economical. We also facilitate Entrepreneurship Training so that when the PPK Ormawa activity contract has ended, Sendangagung Village can independently manage the distribution and management of processed products that have been learned. There are several success indicators determined that hopefully can be achieved when this activity takes place, and of course requires the support and cooperation of all parties involved.
