Rector of Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (Unisa) Yogyakarta, Warsiti, reminded the meaning of excellence that has been attached to Unisa Yogyakarta, during the 34th Anniversary of Unisa Yogyakarta, at Walidah Dahlan Mosque, Tuesday (3/6/2025) night.
“The theme of our anniversary this year Caring for Excellence, Advancing the Nation, is not just a slogan. This is an invitation as well as a shared responsibility. We have been given a lot of trust, the status of Unisa Yogyakarta is superior,” said Warsiti.
Warsiti reminded that excellence according to the Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah, Prof. Haedar Nashir has two indicators. “If we are compared then we will win, and if we are compared then we are the best. Both must be used, not choosing one or the other. Competitive advantage and comparative advantage,” said Warsiti.
Competitive, when entering an open arena of competition, whether in the form of a competition, selection, accreditation, ranking, is able to outperform others. “This requires competitiveness, strategy, courage to perform, and superior quality that is tested directly,” said Warsiti.
Comparatively, when compared to other institutions, whether in service quality, reputation, quality of graduates, or values held, it remains in a superior position. This involves consistency, integrity, and quality that is maintained from within.
“If we only excel when compared, we can win occasionally but not necessarily be recognized as the best on an ongoing basis. If we only excel in comparison, we can look good on paper but not tough when tested in the real field,” he said.
For this reason, we must design superior programs based on the uniqueness of the institution but directed to appear at the national / international level. “Strong campus identity, Islamic character, alignment with the community, humanist student services. Unisa is known for integrating Islamic values and women’s health in its education system,” said Warsiti.
The Chairperson of the Daily Governing Board (BPH) of Unisa Yogyakarta, Siti Noordjannah, invited us to recall the history of the birth of Unisa Yogyakarta. The birth of Unisa Yogyakarta began with a very extraordinary struggle initiative.
“I would like to invite you to show gratitude in various ways and endeavors, because today’s presence is inseparable from the early figures who started from ladder to ladder. Facing various difficulties, challenges, and so on, until this point,” Noordjannah said.
