Kongres Aptsa 2

Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta has once again raised Indonesia’s name in the international arena. This time, UNISA was trusted to host the 12th Asia Physical Therapy Student Association (APTSA) Congress. The prestigious event, which was attended by physiotherapy students from 11 Asian countries, took place on August 17-18, 2024.

The 12th APTSA Congress raised the theme “Development of Physiotherapy Treatment Approaches in Low Back Pain”. The selection of this theme is in line with the high prevalence of low back pain in the community. Through this congress, it is hoped that closer collaboration can be established between physiotherapy students from various countries to jointly find the best solution to overcome this health problem.

International Webinar: An Exchange of Knowledge

As a series of events, the 12th APTSA Congress also organized a hybrid international webinar. This webinar featured leading physiotherapists, both from within and outside the country. Some of the interesting topics discussed in this webinar include:

Assessment and Management of Low Back Pain: Movement Impairment Syndrome: Speaker: Assoc.Prof. Mantana V, PhD (PT), DPT

Physiotherapy Technology Development in the 2045 era: Speaker: Muhammad Irfan, M.Fis

UNISA: Pioneer of Physiotherapy Education in Indonesia

As the host, UNISA’s Physiotherapy Student Association (HIMAFI) played an active role in the success of this event. HIMAFI has made careful preparations over the past few months to ensure the smooth running of the event.

UNISA’s success in organizing the 12th APTSA Congress further strengthens UNISA’s position as one of the leading universities in the field of physiotherapy education in Indonesia. By hosting an international event like this, UNISA not only contributes to the development of science, but also introduces Indonesia to the international world.

The Physiotherapy Study Club of ‘Aisyiyah University (UNISA) Yogyakarta held another Guidance Seru (BIMSER) with the theme “Discuss The Problem Of Injuries In Athletes With Disabilities”, Sunday (14/07).

The event, which took place in Bararah Barried Hall Building A Siti Bariyah 4th Floor UNISA Yogyakarta Integrated Campus, presented two experienced speakers, namely Shofwal Jamil, Indonesian Amputee Football Physiotherapist who is also a physiotherapy lecturer at UNISA Yogyakarta, and Faris Fadhli Dhomily, NPC Powerlifting Athlete.

Study Club is a learning activity where students are taught lecture material that is not understood to be discussed or taught again in detail. Study Club Physiotherapy Sport is a study group formed by the R & D division of HIMAFI UNISA Yogyakarta as a forum to increase knowledge and hone the skills of physiotherapy students at UNISA who have interests and talents in the field of sports physiotherapy.

Andika, the chief executive of the BIMSER activity, stated that the main purpose of this activity was to increase the knowledge and understanding of students, especially Physiotherapy students, about injuries that often occur in athletes with disabilities and the important role of physiotherapy in handling them.

“The target to be achieved from this activity is the formation of sports physiotherapists who have knowledge and understanding both in theory and practice, so as to improve skills that can be used in lectures and in the work field later,” said Andika.

He also hoped that this activity could be useful for the students who participated in it and increase their knowledge.

In the discussion, Shofwal Jamil emphasized that physiotherapy plays an important role in the prevention of sports injuries in athletes, especially Paralympians. “The task of physiotherapy is to maintain and preserve the productive age of athletes in achieving achievements,” he said.

Similarly, Faris Fadhli Dhomily also emphasized the importance of making exercise a necessity, not just an obligation.

This activity was attended by all Physiotherapy Study Club administrators and undergraduate students of UNISA Physiotherapy Study Program in semester 2, 4, and 6.
