In an effort to improve the quality of school library services, especially in the Gunungkidul area, Universitas `Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta together with a number of related institutions held a National Seminar with the theme “Collaboration and Competition Strengthen Library Development in the Era of Information Technology.” Thursday (24/10). The event, which took place at the Gunungkidul Regency Dispussip Hall, was attended by school librarians, representatives of related agencies, and academics.
Collaboration
The seminar was a forum for stakeholders to share knowledge and experience in developing school libraries. The speakers, such as Agung Wibawa, SIP. from the Gunungkidul Regency Dispussip, and Abdul Wahid Aziz, S.I.Pust. from SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Library, highlighted the importance of school library transformation in facing the digital era.
“Collaboration is the key to advancing school libraries,” said Irkhamiyati, Chairperson of FPPTMA who also represented UNISA Yogyakarta.
He emphasized the importance of cooperation between schools, library services, universities and communities to create a conducive literacy ecosystem.
Formation of HIMPUSMA Gunungkidul
One important outcome of the seminar was the formation of the Gunungkidul Association of Muhammadiyah School Librarians (HIMPUSMA). The formative team that has been formed will design the organizational structure and work program of HIMPUSMA. It is hoped that HIMPUSMA can become a forum for school librarians to exchange ideas, share information, and improve their competence.
In addition to the seminar and the formation of HIMPUSMA, the event was also marked by the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Gunungkidul District Secretariat and UNISA Yogyakarta and UAD. This cooperation is expected to strengthen synergies in school library development, such as through training programs, collection development, and library services based on information technology.
The Dispussip of Gunungkidul Regency also showcased various innovative services that can be utilized by school libraries, such as the mobile car service, Lajang Cakap (Gunungkidul Children’s Pick-Up Service for Prospective Library Cadres), and others. These services are expected to increase people’s interest in reading, especially school children.
With strong collaboration between various parties, it is hoped that school libraries in Gunungkidul can become inspirational learning centers and be able to meet the information needs of students. In addition, the existence of HIMPUSMA Gunungkidul is expected to encourage continuous improvement in the quality of school library services.
